Hungary's first cosmonaut was Bertalan Farkas, who made his first space flight in May 1980 on the Soviet Soyuz-36 spacecraft together with cosmonaut Valery Kubasov. This was the fifth manned flight under the Intercosmos program. Hungary became the seventh country whose citizen flew into space.
The second Hungarian cosmonaut, 45 years after Farkas, was Tibor Kapu, who flew as part of a private crew on the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. The flight took place in June 2025 and included a docking with the ISS.
