146th manned flight of the Soyuz. 66th flight of the Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS. The next crew of the ISS. Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitriy Petelin and Frank Rubio return was planned for March 2023, but on December 15 2022 the cooling system of the service module of the Soyuz MS-22 was damaged, presumably during a collision with a micrometeorite or space debris.
The descent of astronauts in a damaged ship was considered dangerous. Therefore, for the return of Prokopyev, Petelin and Rubio, Roscosmos specialists decided to send a spacecraft Soyuz MS-23 without a crew to the ISS. The flight of Prokopyev, Petelin and Rubio has been extended until September. Their return is scheduled for September 27th. In this case, the duration flight of Prokopyev, Petelin and Rubio will be 370 days. This duration will be the third in history. The longest flight was made by a Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov: 437 days 17 hours 58 minutes (10505 h 58 m). The second longest flight remains the flight of Sergey Avdeyev: 379 days 14 hours 51 minutes (9110 h 51 m).
At the same time, Frank Rubio's flight will be the longest flight of any American astronaut. By far the longest flight by an American astronaut Mark Vande Hei: 355 days 3 hours 45 minutes (8523 h 45 m).
