86th manned flight of the Soyuz. The 6th flight of the Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS. Yuri Malenchenko and Edward Lu the seventh crew of the ISS . They replaced the sixth crew of the ISS: Kenneth Bowersox, Nikolai Budarin and Donald Pettit. After the disaster of the shuttle Columbia, the cosmonauts on the ISS began to fly only on the Soyuz. Amount of ISS crew members were reduced from three to two.
